I noticed that there is no delay for the first retry in case of 429, see that trace

The 0.8s delay is only for the second request? Is that expected?

Hi @verdie-g. Thanks for reaching out and for your inquiry. The default for ClientRetryPolicy is an exponential backoff scheme with initial delay of 0.8 seconds. As a result, the initial retry is expected to occur at 0.8 seconds unless the service returns a Retry-After header, which would add an additional delay.

You can tune the retry policy to adjust the number of retries, but it does not appear that System.ClientModel provides a way of tuning the delay without extending the class and overriding GetNextDelay.
