First, I want to give a huge thank you to
dhhand the entire team at 37signals behind Omarchy. The distro is incredible and provided me with an amazing, eye-opening experience into a properly configured Hyprland workflow. It's a fantastic project. After using it extensively, I have some feedback and ideas that I believe could make it even more accessible and flexible for a wider range of users and hardware.
1. Suggestion: A "Minimal" Install Option
The default selection of packages is great for a full experience, but I found myself not needing several of them (e.g., Docker, Lazydocker, Pinta, Spotify, Signal, 1Password, Obsidian, Libreoffice). A minimal install option would be fantastic for users who:
2. Suggestion: Optional Filesystem Encryption (For Desktops)
I fully understand and appreciate the emphasis on security. However, for a dedicated home desktop PC, the slight performance overhead of full-disk encryption is a trade-off some users (like me) might prefer to avoid.
Could we have an option during installation to disable encryption? This would be perfect for stationary desktop systems, while keeping encryption as the default and highly recommended option for laptops.
3. Suggestion: Alternative bar, wm, terminal.
It would be super cool if users had choice between waybar, quickshell; hyprland, niri; walker, rofi; alacritty, kitty etc during installation. I am personally wanna try niri, but i got used to omarchy setup so much that it would be hell for me to set it up with niri from scratch.
